Dearly Departed, Shanahan

Shanahan, He did it his waaaaaaaaaaaaay

Black Monday lingered longer, as Denver Bronco’s owner Pat Bowlen “sadly had to let a friend go”. The draining press conference earlier today, in which both Bowlen and Shanahan spoke at, took almost an hour. It was a cry fest of who will miss who more, and best wishes to both parties. Not to mention a long list of names Shanahan wished to thank. Both parties will gain from this, Bowlen has a high intensity offense that would attract any coach, while Shanahan is still owed 20 million over the next three years from Denver makes him a very affordable and effective candidate for other organizations.

No telling right now if the New York Jets will cool down on their every attempted effort to nab Bill Cowher with Shanahan’s resume on the open market. There is no doubt that Shanahan would take a job in New York, but the forecast right now would predict him Cleveland before the end of January.

As for Denver, a question was presented to Bowlen on whether or not he would considered John Elway as a replacement, or at least a part of management. Bowlen cited that John is incredibly busy with the Arena Football League’s Denver Crush where he acts as co-owner and executive of operations (Bowlen is co-owner along with Elway). Considering Elway has had complete executive control over the Crush’s operations Bowlen is familiar with what Elway is capable of. The crush has made the playoffs in the last four years, winning a title in 2005. Although, the AFL won’t have a 2009 season due to financial reasons, making Elway’s schedule a little light.
